I've got the crud

I really hate being sick when Shawn isn't around to take care of me. Literally overnight I came down with a yucky cough that has me feeling overall cruddy. It's been about a year since I was sick, so I guess I'm due. Of course, this is really bad timing (I was planning a weekend trip to California that is going to be delayed because it's really hard to drive when you're hopped up on NyQuil).

When Shawn and I first got together, I was nothing but sick. Seriously. I came home from vacation in Hawaii with a little bit of a cold. It slowly developed into bronchitis which turned into pneumonia which culmunated in a trip to the ER only to find out I had strep throat and a kidney infection. Two days after that ER visit, Shawn left for Iraq.

He was really good to me the whole time. He made me hot tea, rubbed my feet, kept me warm and wel-fed, and was extremely attentive. When I got to my worst point, he had to carry me down three flights of stairs from our apartment to the truck because I was too weak to walk. He sat in the hospital while they pumped me full of antibiotics and morphine (kidney infections hurt badly). He just sat there holding my hand and answered all the doctor's questions. When I fell asleep, he stayed there - he didn't even turn on the t.v. or leave to go find something to read while he waited. He just sat there and watched me. It was the kindest thing anyone could have done for me, mostly because I thought I was dying.

What I've got now is just a cold, but it still makes me feel frustrated and alone. There's no one to take care of me right now but me. Blech!
